Student Banking

The International Division assists international students in opening savings accounts with either Maybank or RHB Bank.

The opening of a savings account is only possible after the endorsement of the student visa. The process of opening a new savings account may either be immediate or longer due to verification purposes.

Students will be able to receive funds transfers from home into their savings account here in Miri. There are several mechanisms for this including Telegraphic Transfer and Moneygram Money Transfers.

To open a new bank savings account in Miri, certain documents (original and copies) are required and the requirements of different banks vary.

For the convenience of students, both Maybank and RHB Bank ATMs are located on campus in the Heron 1 Building.


DOCUMENTS REQUIRED – MAYBANK
  1. Personal Information Form
    1. To be filled at the bank (also available at International Division)
  2. Proof of tenancy in Miri
    1. Curtin Malaysia accommodation
      1. Tenancy agreement from Housing Services, and
      2. Receipt as proof of payment
    2. Off campus accommodation
      1. Utility bills of current residence, and
      2. Valid tenancy agreement (if necessary)
  3. Letter of Offer from Curtin Malaysia
    1. Most recent Letter of Offer stating the latest enrolled course
  4. New Bank Account Letter
    1. To be obtained from Counter 1, Student Services, Curtin Malaysia
    2. Applicant is required to fill in the Document Requisition Form
    3. The Document Requisition Form is available online at Request Letter Form, and
    4. Completed forms can be submitted by hand to Counter 1, Student Services or emailed to student.services@curtin.edu.my
  5. A photocopy of your current passport
    1. Front page (personal information and photograph), and
    2. Valid Malaysian Student Visa (Multiple Entry Visa) – to have a minimum of six (6) months validity 
  6. Original passport
    1. To be brought for verification purposes
  7. Cash for your initial deposit
    1. The minimum amount required to opening a new savings account is RM250.00
